From the square, we will take Carrer Major and Carrer del Mur up to the church of Sant Esteve. From here, we will take the Descent of the Pont de la Vila that will take us to the homonymous bridge. We cross the bridge and continue until we find the paved road that we will follow, heading towards the fish farm and always following the course of the river on the right side. In fact, this road, today asphalted, is the path known as La Vinya Vella.
We cross a tunnel and arrive at a turnoff to the left that indicates the Cabrit spring. We can go down to it. We take the path until we find a very obvious path a few meters further on, to the left, which we will take, leaving the one of the Vinya Vella that continues straight on the asphalt.
The road bends, following the level curves, to keep the height up to a track that we will take straight ahead until you reach the monastery of Sant Llorenç.
The recently restored monastery is one of the most interesting architectural ensembles in Berguedà. You can visit it attending to the guided tours.
The route continues along the old path that ascended to the monastery where you can still see remains of a mill and a corn stalker hidden in the middle of the flood.
We go down to the road, cross the Bastareny above the bridge and arrive at the Terradelles neighborhood. We cross the neighborhood on the main street to find the old road from Guardiola to Bagà that we will continue until returning to the town of Bagà.
Sant Llorenç
The first monastic community that existed in the place known as Sant Llorenç prop Bagà was formed by hermits that occupied the caves and natural shelters of the cliff. Very close by they built a small church, dated by historians around the 6th or 7th centuries, of which some remains are preserved. The church that has arrived to our days, of three naves, was built in different phases from the 10th century, when the monks of the Benedictine order were established on the site. In the 11th century a cloister was built, around which the monastic dependencies, such as the hospital, the refectory and the house of the abbot, were also organized, as well as the apsidioles that led by the " west side naves. In the 12th century a tribune was built in the middle of the west of the central nave of the temple, the space under which, after lowering the ground, it took the appearance of crypt.
The earthquake of February 2, 1428 seriously affected the buildings of the monastery: for this reason, in the seventeenth century, the porch on which the primitive bell tower had been built disappeared and the eastern half of the church disappeared, the North nave. In this same century the restoration of the complex began, but the church did not recover the primitive volume nor the inner space wealth. The renewed church that emerged from this restoration, of half the height that the primitive one, is the one that was conserved until the end of the 20th century:
At the end of the last century, the Diputació de Barcelona initiated the last restoration that culminated this year and that has allowed to recover the initial volume of the church and the contemplation of the interior space as it was in the 15th century, chaired by the tribune-crypt of the central nave.
Old town of Bagà
We can complement the route with a tour of the interesting historical center of the village of Bagà. This historic center has the peculiarity that it did not grow in a disorderly manner but was the result of a previous urban planning by Galceran IV de Pinós in the middle of the 13th century around the Palau dels Pinós and that it was walled in all its surroundings . Therefore, today, although the wall is no longer preserved, there remains a historic center formed by a set of squared streets and squares, perfectly structured and with several spaces and buildings of notable interest: the Plaça Porxada , Plaça del Forment or La Portella are some examples.
