Mina de Petroli de Riutort

Inside Riutort’s mine, in Guardiola de Berguedà, workers were able to extract oil from the stone. In times of famine and hardship, veins of bituminous marl were exploited, which when placed at temperatures of 3,000 ºC would release the oil they contained. Now, the galleries of the mine can be visited, and one may observe during the tour oil drops of the blackest black splashed on the walls.
