Baix Berguedà is synonymous with dirt tracks that intertwine between narrow asphalted roads, which connect peasant houses and Romanesque hermitages. El Roseret, which gives its name to this route, is an example: a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Rose, rebuilt at the end of the 16th century.
Touring these lands always reminds us that Berguedà is the Barcelona region that has the greatest power to feed its population. The agricultural fields, the herds of sheep and goats and the cows that usually graze near a farm make these pedal rides a visual and sensory experience. Each season of the year gives us a range of colors and shades that transform the landscape in a unique way.
This route runs through a natural and agricultural area that summarizes the essence of Baix Berguedà: plateaus with small hills and valleys formed by rivers and streams, which, on occasion, disappear according to the rainfall.
Pedaling along this route transports us to 1994, when the devastating fires drastically transformed the landscape. The imposing white pine forests were swept away; some farmhouses and their animals, completely burned. A sad and painful anniversary for Berguedà. During those days, farmers, firefighters, anonymous volunteers and half the county worked tirelessly to deal with the catastrophe. Casserres, through which the route passes, was one of the towns most affected. Lives, livestock and material goods were lost. If we look carefully, the white pine forest has recovered remarkably, mixing with oaks and oaks that are gradually gaining the land that once belonged to them.
The El Roseret route guides us through this unique part of the region, which, even after more than 30 years, is still in the process of transformation, showing us especially the resilience of nature.
